The SOCIETY
Throughout western Europe, Thursday’s Children gather in organizations known as the Society which have existed for hundreds of years. They devote their time studying and expelling vaesen. So far, there are four branches:
Castle
Gyllencreutz in Upsala, Scandinavia: Home to the
Order of Artemis.
Hanstholm
Lighthouse in
Hanstholm, Denmark:
Home to the Sønderborg Chapter, an offshoot of the Order of Artemis; operations
primarily in Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands.
Rose House in London, United Kingdom: Home to the Apollonian Society
that conducts operations in England, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
Rose House is the home of the Apollonian Society. It is a stone building of three stories at Aldermanbury, not far from London Wall. It is said that it takes its name from the secret, or sub rosa, business conducted by Sir Francis Walsingham, whose family once owned the house.
The present structure was built between 1666 and 1668 after its predecessor burned down in the Great Fire of 1666. Its interior has changed over the centuries, giving it a somewhat unconventional layout.
About half the ground level is occupied by a coach house and stables, which are entered from the street through an arched double gate. The rest of the floor consists of kitchens and storerooms, with a small cellar for wine and perishables. Hawkins the butler has an office and small bedroom off the storerooms. Mrs. Morley the cook-housekeeper comes in daily from her home a few streets away. Stairs lead up to the first floor, where the main activity of the house takes place.
The staircase leads to a central lounge furnished with sofas and armchairs, and doors lead to the library and museum on one side and the dining room on the other. The top floor is devoted to bedrooms, which are made available to visiting members.
Skarbek
Manor in Kornik, Poland: Home to The
Chapter of the Red Talon; operations primarily in Poland and the NE Baltic
states.
Skarbek Manor is the home of the Red Talons.
It is a large manor with a picturesque view of Jezioro Selmet Wielki Lake
outside of the small town of Elk, about 250 km NE of Warsaw. Other than the
chapter members and staff, it is also home to the ghost of Hortensja Skarbek
whose spirit remains to keep a ghostly eye on her beloved home.
The current senior housekeeper is Tymoteusz
Chlapowski (“Please call me Mr. Chlapowski.”) who makes sure the manor is clean
and orderly. The manor is home to an extensive collection of occult and magical
items (books, scrolls etc.) and has a very well-stocked armory and wetbar.
Over the years the chapter has built a network of rooms and tunnels underneath the manor to keep its most dangerous items and entities secure. When the wind is quiet it is said screams of madness and pain can be heard from its lower floors.
